Frequently Asked Questions
LostAura uses Apple's Screen Time API (FamilyControls framework) to genuinely block access to the apps you choose. When you try to open a locked app, you'll see a shield screen telling you to complete your challenges first. This isn't a notification you can dismiss — the apps are actually locked until you earn them back.
Challenges fall into three categories: Body (pushups, squats, sit-ups, gym visits), Mind (meditation, reading, breathwork), and Social (call a friend, text a family member, meet up IRL). You can mix and match to build a daily routine that works for you. New challenges are added regularly.
It depends on the challenge type. For exercises like pushups and squats, our AI uses your phone's camera with pose detection to count reps in real time. For other challenges, you submit a proof photo that our AI analyzes against your goal description. We're intentionally lenient — if you made a genuine effort, it'll pass.
You can resubmit as many times as you want. If your proof is rejected, we'll show you what the AI saw and what it expected, so you can take a better photo. Your apps stay locked until you pass, but there's no limit on attempts.
We get it — life happens. Tap "I need access" on the shield screen and wait through a 30-second cooldown. After that, your apps unlock temporarily for that session. No penalty to your commitment, but the challenge still waits for you. Next time you open a locked app, the shield is back.
Yes. Go to Settings, select your active commitment, and tap "Cancel This Commitment." We'll ask why (to help us improve), and you'll need to type "CANCEL" to confirm. Your apps will unlock immediately and the commitment is archived. It's designed with friction on purpose — so you don't bail on a whim.
Every day you complete your challenges, your streak grows by one. Points are earned for each completed challenge, with bonuses for maintaining long streaks. These feed into your overall level and achievements. It's self-improvement gamified — the longer you stick with it, the more satisfying it gets.
Any app on your iPhone. When you set up a commitment, Apple's native app picker appears and you select which apps to lock. Most people lock social media (Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, YouTube), but you can lock anything — games, shopping apps, whatever steals your time.
LostAura starts with a 3-day free trial with full access to everything. After that, it's $5/month for unlimited commitments and challenges. You can cancel anytime through your App Store account settings.
Your active commitments stay valid — apps remain locked and challenges keep running until their deadlines. You just won't be able to create new commitments until you resubscribe. We're not going to break a promise you made to yourself just because of a billing issue.
Not yet. The core app-locking feature requires Apple's Screen Time API, which is iOS-only. We're researching Android alternatives, but for now LostAura is iPhone-only (iOS 16+).
Yes. Your app selections are stored as opaque tokens — we literally can't see which apps you picked, only Apple knows. Proof photos are used solely for AI verification and deleted within 30 days. We use industry-standard encryption for all data in transit and at rest.
Yes. You must be at least 18 years old to use LostAura, since the app involves Screen Time management and financial transactions.
Yes. Go to Settings, then Account, then Delete Account. All your data will be permanently deleted within 24 hours. Active commitments will be cancelled, and all app locks will be removed immediately.
